Separate database and file-storage costs
Overskill’s pricing distinguishes database storage, a per-app database ceiling and file storage. Do not treat a single headline allowance as one pool for every kind of content. A directory with short text records and a portal collecting photographs have different growth patterns. Before comparing plans, list what is saved in rows, what is uploaded as a file and what can be regenerated. Use the current pricing source for amounts; this worksheet focuses on the workload that makes those limits matter.
Budget from a fictional upload sample
Suppose a request tracker receives twenty submissions each day. If each submission includes three images, count both the records and sixty image files rather than only twenty rows. Use measured file sizes from a harmless sample instead of assuming every image is tiny. Label all inputs as a scenario, not expected traffic. Repeat the estimate for a busier month and include revisions or duplicate uploads if your workflow retains them. This reveals the main growth driver before it becomes a bill.
Account for retention and recovery
Decide which records people need to retain and which temporary files can safely expire. Deleting data simply to fit a limit is not a substitute for a retention policy. Overskill’s table export is a snapshot with documented row constraints, so a growing dataset needs an export and recovery plan as well as enough capacity. Record who can approve deletion, where a recoverable copy belongs and how you would prove that the restored app still links records to the correct files.
Compare the marginal cost before expansion
When usage approaches an allowance, compare improving the workload with changing the plan or storage design. Large images, unnecessary copies and indefinite retention can be more important than visitor count. Verify the current overage units and how they are billed in your account before treating any estimate as a ceiling. The useful decision is whether your expected operating pattern fits the service, not whether its biggest advertised number sounds generous. We have not measured Overskill storage performance or created a chargeable dataset.
